Shadrin Has Scored For Russia
Written and Illustrated by Kevin Sylvester
As the documentary shows, the beginning of the end happened on September 28, 1972, in the final game of the Summit Series between the Canadian and Russian teams. Paul Henderson, the heroic scorer of the wining goal in the previous two games, misses a golden opportunity to score, and the play heads back to the Russian end, where Vladimir Shadrin stuffs it into the net. Russia wins the series!
In this hilarious spoof, that’s when all hell breaks loose. The team’s plane is not allowed to land in Canada; the suicide rate among NHLers spikes; bruising teams such as the New Westminster Bruins become figure-skating clubs; and hockey heroes like Brad Park and Henderson are forced to play in Russia.
